The New Japanese-Inspired Nobu Ryokan Malibu Has Finally Opened

Just above the iconic Carbon Beach lies a beautifully transformed destination retreat, once a simple vintage beach motel from the ’50s. The first ever edition of Nobu Hospitality’s Ryokan Collection has been officially unveiled on April 28 as the new Nobu Ryokan Malibu. Sitting on the cool Californian coastline, bringing the elegance of modernity and class in authentic Ryokan-inspired fashion.

16 exclusive, uniquely-designed accommodations spread out over two stories, complete with a stunning panorama of the great ocean. Each individually-designed guest room offers a fascinating meeting between authentic Japanese elements and a laidback California vibe. From specially hand-crafted teak soaking tubs to earthy limestone walls, indulge in a unique guest experience.

Find a harmonious rendering of rich, natural material palettes, from teak to limestone throughout its interior and exterior, bringing to life the traditional Japanese inn and its minimalist aesthetic. It is not just the design elements that are Japanese-inspired. Just like the Japanese art of hospitality, or the Omotenashi, guests can expect distinctive service in a lavish sanctuary.

Guests are also given access to Carbon Beach and Malibu Racquet Club, as well as the opportunity to indulge in a bespoke in-room dining menu at Chef Nobu’s Nobu Malibu. For quieter days in, the 37-foot, outdoor lap pool also overlooks the stunning Pacific Ocean.
