5 High-End Flagship Phones to Look out for in 2017

Porsche Design Mate 9

The Porsche Design Mate 9 (which is based on the Huawei Mate 9 Pro) features seamless curved edges, a graphite finish and stylish black coloring combined with the latest technology ‘under the hood’. The phone houses the Kirin 960 chipset; currently touted as being the world’s highest performing smartphone processor. It also includes EMUI 5.0, an intuitive user interface that streamlines the user experience with the OS. It boasts enough battery-life to last up to two days with normal use and a second generation Leica dual-lens camera with Hybrid Zoom, featuring a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor.

iPhone Edition

From what we can gather, iPhone Edition will most probably be a higher-end model of Apple’s most popular mobile device. And it’s perhaps also a celebratory nod to the iPhone’s 10th anniversary. Apple has claimed that the iPhone Edition will feature at least a five-inch display size, wireless charging and a dual camera set-up. Apple has used the moniker “Edition” before, for the Apple Watch Edition – a luxury version of its smartwatch that cost more than $10,000 and was made of 18K gold.

BlackBerry KeyOne

Hewn from aluminum and covered in Gorilla Glass 4 on the front, the BlackBerry KeyOne’s 4.5-inch LCD screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and resolution of 1620 x 1080, meaning it’s as sharp as it needs to be. The 12-megapixel camera uses a Sony sensor with 1.55-micron pixels. The biggest draw for the phone is probably the physical keyboard that sits below the screen; similar to the one seen on BlackBerry’s swansong as an independent hardware manufacturer: 2015’s BlackBerry Priv. The phone comes with a fingerprint sensor on the space bar, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor and a 3505mAh battery.

Microsoft Surface Smartphone

Microsoft is getting back into the ring, with the Surface Smartphone. Though information about the phone is elusive, some expected specifications include 8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage, expandable storage up to 256GB with MicroSD, Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) 64-bit processor, a 21-megapixel rear camera with PureView Zeiss 6-lens and an 8-megapixel front camera, a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution and ClearBlack Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Samsung Galaxy Note S8

Samsung will be stretching its wings with the upcoming Galaxy Note 8, and the most recent rumours suggest that Samsung will outfit the handset with a 4K display in order to maximise the Note 8’s VR capabilities. More possible specifications include a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved dual edge display, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a 64 bit Octa-Core 14 nm Exynos 8890 processor or a Quad Core Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB internal memory, External memory up to 256GB with microSD, a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash with Smart OIS and f/1.7 aperture, a 5-megapixel front camera with f/1.7 aperture, Fingerprint sensor, Heart rate sensor, Iris scanner, Barometer, an S Pen stylus, Single SIM/Dual SIM, NFC, and a 4000 mAh battery with fast charging.
